1084 is an good steel choice for the beginner to pattern welding as well as for the advanced ‘smith. It is however, more challenging to heat treat properly due to the high carbon content. Due to the moderate Manganese content, 1095 will tend to etch to a medium to dark grey color.
1095 works well in pattern welding with:
