Yet another blog on the Internets…
Hi, I’m Rob “Deker” Dekelbaum and you’ve stumbled upon my blog. This is a new idea for me. I’ve never had a blog before, mostly because I never had much to say. Recently though I seem to ba answering a lot of questions about pattern welded steel, so I figured that it would make sense to collect what I’ve learned someplace to refer people to.
A little background about me. I began blacksmithing in in 2001 when I took a basic blacksmithing class hosted by the Blacksmith Guild of Central Maryland . After that, I promptly spent a couple of years not doing any ‘smithing at all. Some time later I took more classes from BGCM. I also moved closer to the guild forge which allowed me to more easily take classes and be active in the guild. It was in November of 2006 when I took the BGCM knifemaking class and was hooked. About a year after that class I welded my first billet and made it into this knife:
Since then I have become a dedicated student of pattern welding. I learn all I can and try everything I have the time to try. I’ll be updating this blog as regularly as I can and will add brain dumps of what I know about pattern welding in the hopes that it will help other people learn this addicting and wonderful craft.
We’ll see how this goes. Wish me luck!
great sitte man, very informative but some more pictures please, iam just starting to try steel sling welding, anyways dont stop this is going to be a wiked site good luck
More pictures will be coming, fear not! Some of them I already have, but just need to organize, and others are yet to be taken (which means I need some shop time). Then there are some of the “explanation” graphics I need to draw up. It’s a lot of work, so bear with me, but I plan to get it done.
Thanks for the kind words.
